HIMSSEurope 2018 & Health 2.0, Sitges, Barcelona, May 27-29, provided all stakeholders with the opportunity to share their views on how we better engage as citizens in this era of digital health and the incredible transformation that is taking place. taking place in healthcare and life sciences. Patient empowerment is really about empowering people and how we want technology to improve our health, quality of life, help us lead better lives and support us in care, without having to trip over systems that still they have not adjusted to the XNUMXst century and the technological advances within our reach.
The potential to unlock problems such as late and poor diagnosis, in many diseases or progress towards personalized medical and care support, thanks to predictive analysis of health data, genomic profiling or connected platforms between the patient and the health professional, is changing quickly our future. However, can we unlock this potential and make it available to more people? This remains our challenge.
Digital health literacy, gaps in understanding, relevant training programs, viable business models, or the issues related to regulatory frameworks and compliance: confront all participants. Policymakers are most advanced in developing economies like Asia, where the need to quickly serve large populations embracing the mobile economy acts as a trigger for some of our slower Western economies. Here, the awkwardness still exists, as well as the budget. constraints, to bring about a cultural change in traditional systems or even their replacement with extensible resources serviced by new emerging companies. The Netherlands presented Patients.ville, a model of our future homes, where we have devices and applications available to connect us through platforms, to our care centers, without going to hospitals and continuing to be cared for. These pioneers encourage us to keep going, working to connect real people with digital health solutions that are already available. Then we can begin to see how our world is changing and our health can be managed differently no matter how old we are or what our condition is: mental health, cancer or chronic illness.
The Government of Estonia with the ECH Alliance and entrepreneurs such as Jordi Serrano Pons or Jaime del Bairro, president of the Spanish Digital Health Association, are creating dynamic environments where new business models, new companies and partners with significant resources can connect and help us transition to innovative and equitable healthcare structures.
Our role, from the perspective of a patient organization at Lovexair, is to take advantage of this opportunity, as we can see significant benefits on the horizon, one where people can actively participate in education, training and where we can join alliances to build ecosystems around values-based care. to be a key player in this new environment: providing tools for health professionals and training educators who can work online and offline in support of chronic care and physical activity, specializing in respiratory diseases.
There are many impressive solutions emerging and changes taking place, but the real key takeaway here is: what are the operational capabilities of expanded systems and how do we get more people using these new solutions at low cost.
What ICT know-how and resources can we bring to this new field and how can we add value with relevant partnerships to deliver efficient and effective systems with measurable clinical outcomes?
HIMSSEurope 2018 & Health 2.0 presented us with the best opportunity to compare our progress in this field with many individuals and organizations, confirm our strategy and continue working together, especially in our case, for patients with chronic respiratory disease in comprehensive care plans. and physical activity.
We at Lovexair are delighted and grateful to have played an important role in this important event with the Patients 2.0 Forum, the panel sessions on Empowerment and Digital Transformation, and we look forward to moving forward with the leadership of HIMSS & Health 2.0 and their support teams. . or networks, to work on other activities in the coming years and develop real patient participation.
