Is Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Replacement Therapy an Essential Drug?

At the Alpha-1 Awareness Month We take time to thoroughly analyze what is happening in the lives of patients, their treatment and care options, equitable access for all people, as well as improving their quality of life.

We would like to thank Albert Farrugia, one of our scientific experts on plasma therapies and member of our Advisory Board, for preparing this article. Our current concerns include the classification of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin (AAT) augmentation therapy by the EMA, which is not yet registered on the list of essential medicines, as well as the future availability of AAT therapy due to limited European self-sufficiency in plasma supply and dependence on US exports.

At Lovexair, we take the interests and needs of patient communities very seriously.

We thank Albert Farrugia, one of our scientific experts in plasma therapies and member of our advisory board, for preparing this article. Our concerns being the current classification of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin augmentation (AAT) therapy by the EMA not yet registered in the critical medicines list and also the future availability of AAT therapy, due to limited European self-sufficiency in plasma supply and dependency on USA exports.
