“It is essential to have a good health education”
Interview recently conducted by Judit Saavedra with Shane Fitch, president of the Lovexair Foundation, for Inspira, a magazine on children's health and the environment of the Fundació Roger Torné
A child with asthma can lead a normal life, but it is important that both he and his closest environment have all the necessary information to maintain good control of the disease. And with the aim of improving the quality of life of asthmatic children, the Fundació Roger Torné and Lovexair have launched the project 'Healthy cities, for the improvement of childhood asthma'. The initiative has brought together different medical and educational entities, and it is precisely this transversality that makes the project innovative. For this reason, we wanted to speak with Shane Fitch, president of the Lovexair Foundation, a non-profit entity that works to support people with respiratory diseases and lung conditions.
-When and why was Lovexair born?
The Lovexair Foundation was born in 2011 to demonstrate the great importance of our lung health and its impact on our quality of life. Our goal is to provide solutions to people who have limited resources and are affected by respiratory diseases, both patients and family members and caregivers. We also offer support to health professionals and associations that work with these people.
-What respiratory conditions do you treat apart from asthma?
We work in those areas where, together with other organizations, we believe we can give support especially in the prevention and early detection phase. We care for people with pathologies such as bronchiectasis and sleep apnea, respiratory allergies or COPD, which in Spain suffer from more than 10% of the population but which have a high level of underdiagnosis, with the serious consequences that this entails for progressive deterioration. of the lungs and its late detection, when the disease is already very advanced. We also try to give attention to oxygen users, who are more than 300.000 people in Spain, and to all those who suffer from minor respiratory diseases, such as Alpha-1 Antitrypsin, pulmonary fibrosis or interstitial diseases.
