PHARMACY OFFICES IN SEVILLE WILL OFFER MORE COMPLETE PHARMACEUTICAL ADVICE AND CARE TO PATIENTS WITH RESPIRATORY PATHOLOGIES

It will be possible thanks to the joint initiative promoted by the College of Pharmacists of Seville and the Lovexair Foundation. 

As an initial measure, a specific training program will be carried out among Sevillian pharmacists so that they can improve their skills in professional pharmaceutical advice regarding these pathologies.

Pharmacies in the province of Seville will now be able to offer more complete pharmaceutical advice and care to patients suffering from respiratory pathologies thanks to the joint initiative promoted by the College of Pharmacists of Seville and the Lovexair Foundation, dedicated to promoting quality of life among patients with chronic respiratory diseases through initiatives that promote prevention and better monitoring of these ailments.

As an initial measure of this initiative, a specific training program will be carried out among Sevillian pharmacists so that they can improve their skills in professional pharmaceutical advice regarding these pathologies, as well as the support they provide to both patients and their families. , most affected by these diseases.

Pharmacists trained in this regard will be able to provide personalized attention on the orientation of established pharmacological treatments and their possible interactions. Thanks to this, it will be possible to create a network of pharmacies specialized in specific pathologies such as asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), pulmonary arterial hypertension, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or other respiratory pathologies also recognized as rare diseases.

Prevalence of respiratory pathologies in Seville

The group of respiratory diseases represents in Seville and Andalusia as a whole one of the main causes of death in both sexes. In 2013 there were 6.817 deaths from respiratory diseases in Andalusia, of which 1.278 in Seville.

With regard to chronic respiratory pathologies (the main area of ​​action of the Lovexair Foundation), COPD is the disease with the highest prevalence, affecting 8,1% of the population, according to data from the EPISCAN Report. It is the fourth most frequent cause of death after cancer, ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular diseases. Although it can be considered the first preventable cause of death, since it is associated with tobacco.

In addition, of the aforementioned diseases, only COPD continues to increase its mortality and it is expected that in 2020 it will be the third cause of death. It is estimated that more than two million people in Spain and 350.000 in Andalusia suffer from it. The most worrying thing, according to experts, is that its prevalence is increasing and the WHO predicts that in 2030, 7,8% of all deaths will be caused by this disease.
