Take care of your lungs: Be part of the first generation without tobacco
In the framework of the world lung day, which is celebrated every year on September 25, and with the aim of making visible and raising awareness about respiratory health care, the Lovexair Foundationtogether with the civil association Nonsmokers.org, the ENSP – European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention y more than 20 organizations scientists and patients promote the global campaign “Take Care of Your Lungs. Be part of the first tobacco-free generation.”

The common fight against tobacco
According to the World Health Organization, tobacco kills 8 million people, at least every year, and several million more suffer from lung cancer, tuberculosis, asthma or chronic lung diseases.
Furthermore, tobacco is a threat to smokers, but also for the health of your family and friends. Non-smokers exposed to tobacco smoke are also at risk of lung cancer and even new respiratory conditions due to vaping.
Tobacco use is the main preventable epidemic facing the healthcare community.
For this reason, we unite to fight together against the tobacco epidemic, and for people around the world to claim their right to health and a healthy life, and to protect future generations.
Caring for the environment and our youth
At Lovexair we are aware of the importance of protecting lung health and the environment and preventing its deterioration. The impact of electronic cigarettes, vaping, with various flavors and single-use disposables, which are sold to young people at low prices, are polluting the environment with non-recyclable plastic and lithium batteries. In fact, the Australian government is considering implementing strong measures to legislate the import and sale of these products, especially among younger users.
“In Spain will we have the courage to prevent the escalation of serious problems in the health of young people and take care of our environment, or do we abandon ourselves to future commercialization, and practice the exploitation of minors for their future health and full life? What is the political class doing about it? Today we have the opportunity to join the European Initiative to take action. You only need to sign the application for the European Commission to take this issue seriously” questions Shane Fitch, CEO & founder of Lovexair.
#CuidaTusPulmones: For a smoke-free generation
The #CuidaTusPulmones campaign will be active on social networks throughout the month of September 2023, with content in Spanish, English and Portuguese, and multiple scientific and patient organizations participate globally.
Likewise, expert health professionals from various disciplines have joined (primary care, pulmonology, stomatology, psychology, nursing, respiratory physiotherapists, pharmacy, among others), who will share relevant information to generate a positive impact on the entire community and contribute to:
- Encourage smoking cessation and help people who want to quit smoking
- Generate greater awareness about the risks in integral health
- Make visible the harmful effects of tobacco use in all its forms (vaping, electronic cigarettes, IQOS, pipes, among others)
- Reduce exposure to smoky spaces and promote smoke-free spaces as a health policy.
Achieve a tobacco and nicotine free generation by 2030
More than a million signatures from European citizens will be needed to progressively abolish the sale of tobacco and nicotine to generations born on or after January 1, 2010, following the same path that New Zealand has already set in motion.
The ambitious project, born within the Non-Fumadores association, is backed by the European Network for Smoking Prevention (ENSP) and is carried out in collaboration with organizations from 15 European countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Slovenia, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden). To do this, they are using a relatively unknown mechanism called European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) which obliges the European Commission to consider any initiative that gathers a million signatures distributed in at least seven different countries of the European Union.
