Open letter on World No Tobacco Day: Plain packaging works
We join the Open Letter to Spanish policymakers published by Nofumadores.org and SALT.
More than 50 scientific, health, and civil society organizations have joined forces to demand that Spanish policymakers implement plain packaging. evidence is clear and it is time to act decisively to protect the health of the population.
El Plain packaging of tobacco, often called "plain packaging," is a measure that removes promotion and advertising from tobacco product packaging.Plain packaging removes the appeal and deception of cigarette packs, making them less appealing (especially to young people), intensifying the impact of graphic health warnings, and correcting the false perception that some brands are less harmful than others.
When you remove the logos and bright colors from cigarette packs, two important things happen: 30% fewer people want to try a cigarette, and teenagers who have never smoked reduce their risk of becoming smokers in the future by between two and 2 times.
From the Lovexair Foundation we join Nonsmokers.org and Aragonese Tobacco-Free Society (SALT), to demonstrate that the implementation of plain packaging in Spain cannot wait. The tobacco industry's constant interference is slowing down a priority public health measure.
We therefore urge our political decision-makers through our OPEN LETTER TO SPANISH POLITICAL LEADERS Stop demanding more tests and start saving lives! Plain packaging has been working for years in other countries; stop making excuses for not implementing it in Spain.
Plain packaging works:
Stop asking for more tests and start saving lives!
