1st Latin American Summit of Respiratory Patients
The main objective of the summit in Panama was the search for solutions to improve the quality of life of patients with respiratory diseases.
The central axis of the countries should be the development of projects and actions for the promotion of Respiratory Health
Panama, July 17, 2019-Panama hosted the 1st Latin American Summit of Respiratory Patients, which brought together leaders and patients from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, USA and Panama, and associations such as the Panamanian Association of Asthma and Sports, the Colombian Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis, the Brazilian Association of Friends and Family with Pulmonary Hypertension, and the Latin Society of Pulmonary Hypertension, whose conclusions will serve as a reference in respiratory health for the region.
Its main objective was the search for solutions to improve the quality of life of patients with respiratory diseases and respiratory health, through the testimonies of patients and family members. At this summit, the participants wanted to analyze the current situation of the health system in Latin American countries, the relationship that exists between doctor and patient, and the possibility of developing awareness campaigns at a global level to publicize the importance of prevention and early diagnosis in respiratory health.
Projects of interest to citizens that can be replicated in other Latin American countries were also displayed at this meeting. Among them, we highlight the creation of a stakeholder committee developed by the Colombian Ministry of Health, thanks to the promotion of the Colombian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The purpose of this commission is to agree on the prices of orphan drugs and, by law, assist those people with rare diseases so that they receive the appropriate health care and treatment. In addition, during a session open to the public, several patients with rare respiratory diseases were treated, where citizen promotion for access to medication was discussed.
On the other hand, in these work sessions there was also room to talk about the importance of digital health and how the use of digital tools can help patients better adhere to treatment. In this sense, it is important to highlight that thanks to health technologies there is better communication between health professionals and patients and this helps to ensure better monitoring and treatment of the disease. For this reason, it is essential to take advantage of the advantages offered by new technologies, since they allow reaching rural areas that are difficult to access.
For life, healthy lungs

Within the framework of this summit, the Lovexair Foundation organized the public event "For life: healthy lungs" in the Multiplaza shopping center.
Through this action, aimed at citizens, tests were offered to many people with rare diseases and support was given to those who, due to immigration and economic status, did not have access to them. In this way, an information point was established to guide attendees on the high impact of respiratory pathologies.
Flu Prevention
Likewise, during the summit, the Lovexair Foundation, aware of the situation that Panama is currently experiencing with regard to Influenza, published an informative note with infographics, to educate the population on the prevention of contagion of this disease and the promotion of respiratory health in Panama.
